A Good Resume is the Ticket to Your Dream Job!

As a CEO of a company, I am always on the lookout for talented, enthusiastic people to join Mon Space. I believe that talents are the primary asset of a corporation. Thus, I am very careful in selecting employees.
The first step of the selection process is to go through their resumes.

Of course, I have read my fair share of these documents. Some were brilliant, while some sounded like the applicant has zero interest in the position. While a resume may not provide a comprehensive assessment of a person, it is nonetheless the gateway to accurate assessment. Everyone should put in effort to perfect their resume for a chance at entering the door of your dream workplace.

Manager Today had a great article about how to write good resumes. There are five simple pointers, and if you are new to this thing, hopefully it helps!

1. Portray yourself as a good fit for the company’s needs

Good resumes can land you an interview, but it does not guarantee that you will be selected in the end. The reminder here is that job applicants should do their research on what the company is really looking for in an employee. If your resume is not as impressive, you can try to make it up by emphasising how you fit into the company’s role.

2. Carelessness equates disrespect

The common mistakes that human resources managers come across in resumes are typing errors, bad formatting of the document, outdated information etc. Never assume that the recruiting manager will overlook details just because they have to go through many documents.

The truth is, because they are so experienced in screening resumes, no mistake can escape their eyes.
For example, many people forget to change the name of the company they are applying to. In an application to Microsoft, a line saying: “I would love to be part of IBM” is a surefire way to get your resume tossed into the bin.

3. Recruiting managers spend very little time on one resume

The rumour is true. Recruiting managers need only spend a few minutes on each resume before deciding what to do with them. Only great resumes that stand out from the rest deserve the precious time of the people who screen them.

4. Stay away from overly fancy designs. Keep it clean.

There are many avenues through which people can apply for jobs. Doesn’t matter which platform you use, an advice from recruiters is that you should keep your resume simple and easy to understand. In most cases, fancy designs and flowery words should have no place in your job application.

5. Very rarely does your social records matter

Most corporations would not ask you for your Facebook account, or even search for it. But sometimes, when the recruiter can’t decide between two applicants, they might turn to social media and the internet to have a better idea of who you are. 作为一家企业的总裁,我期许招揽有梦想、有热血的人才为集团服务,因为我相信人才是一家企业最大的资本,也因为这个理念,我向来对筛选人才有一定的标准。

衡量人才的最基本的第一步就是审阅履历表。

在职场上驰骋了十几年,看过无数份履历表,当中有一些履历表撰写的特别优秀,而有一些则毫无诚意,虽然说履历表可以“伪造”完美,不能作为评估人才的最标准的方式,但毕竟也是入门的第一步,所以应征者有必要慎重的撰写履历表,若履历表写得不够诚意,相信你连入门票都没有机会得到!

但我必须得强调,履历表仅是第一步而已,企业要的不是一纸履历,而是人才!

在这里我想跟大家分享最近在台湾最权威的管理杂志《Manger Today》整理关于撰写一份出色的履历表必须涵盖5个要点,若你是社会新鲜人,正好为撰写履历表而苦恼,希望这些贴士对你有所帮助!

1. 企业要找的是“最合适的人”,不是“最完美的履历”

好的履历表可以得到面试机会,但条件最优秀的人不见得是最后被录取的人。人资对求职者的提醒是,要深入研究企业的愿景以及该职务需求的人才特质,如果求职者的履历没那么漂亮,更应该强调自己对企业的了解以及自身具备的软实力。

2. 粗心的错误相当于不尊重

许多人资都提到“错字”、“历任工作时序错误”、“履历未更新”,千万不要以为人资们一次看很多份履历就不会注意细节,其实正好相反,正因为他们看得多,更容易看到重复的错误,因此甚少有破绽可以逃过他们的雷达。

例如,想要为雇主客制化履历,但是写给上一家企业的履历没有更新就寄给下一家企业,出现寄给微软的履历,却出现“想要在IBM工作”;明明是投门市人员的职缺出现的却是“我真的很想当采购人员”。

3.人资停留在一份履历上的时间真的很少

一般以为,人资只花几秒钟看求职者的履历,其实只要你像人资主管确认,这件事是真的。他们表示,看履历基本资料花的时间很短,通常不用几分钟就可以决定要淘汰的履历,只有引起人资兴趣的履历才能得到更多时间。

4. 形式不必花俏,简洁条列为上

大部分的企业皆是透过线上人力银行和企业官网征才,因此都接受固定的履历格式。只有少数中高阶主管职缺会透过像LinkedIn这样的职涯网站以及猎人头公司(head hunter)寻找。人资主管们认为履历格式不需要太“别出心裁”,重点还是清楚条列内容,易于阅读。

5. 只有少数求职者的社交纪录会被纳入考量

其实大部分的企业不会要求求职者交出自己的社交媒体帐号,也不会主动搜寻求职者的帐号当参考。但碰上主管在两个求职者当中无法抉择时,也会出现上网搜寻对方的网路评价的案例;也曾经有过人资单位和单位主管确认是否要请某候选人来面谈时,因为该主管曾经看过对方脸书(Facebook)每天都在抱怨工作,因而未获录用的个案。
